Popular Humanitarian, Dr Yolanda N. George-David, also known as Aunt Landa and the Fair Chairman of the Market Square, Alibaba, have tagged the forthcoming edition of Aunt Landa Market Square as the “Intervention Edition”. The event is set to hold on Saturday, December 22nd, 2018 in Festac, Lagos.

This edition aims at intervening in the deplorable state of living among many Nigerians by providing job opportunities for hundreds through the vocational training made available at the market square.

Aunt Landa Market Square is the only market square in the world where the needy get to buy food, clothes, medicine and almost every other thing they need to survive for FREE at the price of the “Aunt Landa Love Currency (Zero Naira wrapped in God’s love).”

It has been revealed that the market will open to the public, and for the less privileged to shop for free as well as acquire free vocational training including hair styling, graphics designing, handcraft, music, catering, soap making and many more. Items like clothes, shoes, books, food items, fruits and everything needed to make the Christmas celebration worthwhile will be made available for free at the market square. A team of qualified medical doctors and nurses will also be available to provide free professional healthcare to attendees in need of medical attention.

Commenting on the purpose of the Market Square, Aunt Landa remarked; “This edition is nothing like we’ve ever done in the past. It is going to be the biggest market square ever! Intervening in the lives of people is not something to speak lightly about, neither is it something I can do all by myself, hence why a lot of my friends will be joining me to make sure that everyone who steps into that venue leaves with a smile and a clear definition of what love really means.”

She further revealed anyone can be part of the event, as it is her desire with the fair Chairman, Alibaba to see everyone excited in this season of love.

The previous market square tagged ‘Happiness Edition’, which took place in 2017 witnessed a massive crowd and attendance from some of the Foundation’s ambassadors, including comedy pioneer Alibaba, popular on-air personality Lolo 1, comedienne Lepacious Bose, Nikki Laoye and a host of others. It is expected that this edition will witness more faces.

The maiden edition of The Event Xperience Africa (TEXA2019), convened by event management pioneer and entrepreneur, Funke Bucknor-Obruthe, ended on Thursday, January 17th with Ibukun Awosika, Chairman, First Bank of Nigeria; Amaechi Okobi, Group Head, Corporate Communications, Access Bank; Yemi Amusan, CEO, Lucere Limited; Alibaba, Veteran MC/Compere; Ziad Nassar, Luxury Event Designer, and others engaging young entrepreneurs on professionalism, creativity and effective collaboration during the 3-day conference held in Lagos.

Themed ‘Be More, Do More: Inspiring New Frontiers’, the conference was birthed out of the need to build and mentor an ever-growing audience of young and creative entrepreneurs within and outside Africa, while also providing opportunities for networking among businesses across international boundaries.

The event was officially launched with an opening beach cocktail on Tuesday, January 15th, 2019, with several celebrities in attendance including Kate Henshaw, Tobi Bakre, Kaffy, Lala Akindoju, Chef Fregz, DJ Consequence, Lamide Akintobi, and many others. There were interesting activities such as face painting, dance sessions, games and more, with live performances by Eboni Band.

To engage the audience in panel discussions were various industry experts including Steve Babaeko, Charles O’Tudor, Ivie Ogbomwan, Tricia Ikponmwonba, Chioma Ifeanyi Eze, Stella Duru, Kola Oyeneyin and international events professionals such as Jhandell Afi (Ghana), Astou Djamat-Dubois (Ivory Coast), Susan Maina (Kenya), and Chioma Nwogu (USA).

For the finale on Day 3, speakers focused on professionalism and excellence in service delivery. The convener also encouraged attendees to ensure they build staying power so event professionals can “be more together” and the industry can be a greater force to be reckoned.

The event which started with the lights, glitz and glamour of a Los Angeles fashion show, had guests decked in designer tuxedos and gowns strutting their stuff on the red carpet, posing for pictures and giving their two-cents opinion on who they wanted to see perform and who they thought deserved awards on the night. The welcoming atmosphere was set ablaze by the evergreen music duo, Style Plus as they treated guests to their hit songs ‘Call my name’, ‘Pour you a wine’ and ‘Imagine that’.

The event saw former vice president Atiku Abubakar walk away as the ‘Man of The Year’; President Buhari as ‘African President of The Year’; and Mo Abudu as ‘Businesswoman of The Year’. Also, completing a corporate clean sweep, Innoson Group was recognized as the ‘Indigenous Manufacturer of The Year’. Just as MTN, Guaranty Trust Bank and Airtel carted off with ‘Customer Service Brand of The Year’, ‘Entrepreneurship Support Bank’ and ‘Creative Ads of The Year’ respectively.

In an elegant lapax fashion dress, Joy Nice, stepped up to receive the award for ‘TV Series of The Year’ on behalf of Nigeria’s comedy genius, Funke Akindele, who took to her official Instagram account to thank fans of her show and promise to continue to deliver. Lifetime achievers Atuyota Alleluya Akpobome popularly known as ‘Alibaba’, Dele Mommodu and Chief Chika Okpala, aka ‘Zebrudaya’, had the crowd on their feet saluting their longevity and dedication to their trade. And to crown the night, His Excellency, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu received the award for ‘Outstanding Governor of The Year‘ for the industrial development of Abia State, promoting the made in Aba industry and fostering youth entrepreneurship.

Speaking on the objectivity of the award platform, the organization’s Chairman Chief Raymond Dokpesi Jr. stated: “DAAR Awards wants to lead the drive on African development by acknowledging and celebrating the pace-setters- urging them and other Nigerians to do more.”

The countdown to the release and launch of a new album from urban gospel recording artiste and music minister, Obiora Obiwon has begun; his first full set in four years.

His new album, “Gold Water” will be launched with a 90-minute Concert on this weekend in Lagos. Speaking on his journey to this concert and his new album, Obiwon said, “This particular body of work literally took four years to make. Apart from the physical recording, the melodies, lyrics and messages have been authored through the inspiring, joyful and painstaking processes of my life and faith within the period.“

Obiwon marked a season of new beginnings and greater heights earlier this year as he was honoured by the National Gospel Awards as the Best Crossover Artist, his first ever award in the genre. He is also nominated for two awards at the upcoming Nigerian Gospel Music Awards 2013.

Also reacting to questions on the possible meaning of the album title “Gold Water”, the singer states, “Gold Water symbolizes something awesome, rare, an amazing sight, something unexpected and unusual…water usually signifies cleansing, refreshing and restoration while gold signifies glory and elevation. A combination of both is pretty much the idea.”

Native Filmworks Limited, film producers and makers of the feature movie, “A Place in the Stars“, hosted an exclusive screening of the movie at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel, Victoria Island, on Sunday 12th October 2014.

This entirely private affair is part of a series of activities leading up to the November 2014 premiere of the movie, and was awash with VIP guests, including Ali Baba, Gideon Okeke, Segun Arinze, Adebola Williams and individuals from the Lagos business community.

Directed and produced by the film maker, Steve Gukas, “Place in the Stars” is a riveting voyage into the dark under-world of fake drugs trafficking and of the harrowing consequences to the most vulnerable members of society.

Set in 2006 Nigeria, A Place in the Stars tells the story of Kim Dakim (Gideon Okeke), a young lawyer with a case and a client that leave him professionally conflicted. Kim is in possession of information that could save scores, if he would only pass it on. Faced with the deathly consequences of crossing ‘industry’ kingpins, including the toughest of them all, Diokpa Okonwo (Segun Arinze); and with millions to earn if he would only turn a blind eye, Kim battles conscience and professional responsibility as he determines which way to turn.

He pointed out that most women in this generation are taking their lives more seriously and have pursued and achieved goals that have set them in the right path for life. But sadly the same cannot be said for most men who easily become intimidated by the successes of the women in their lives

And when the young ladies decide to pocket the achievements and advantages they have, so they can submit to a man in that their age bracket, many of these men have been sooo beaten by the tides of life, that they are too busy fighting the wife they should work with.

Any attempt by the wife to suggest to him to get up and do something to succeed, is treated as disrespect, nagging, pressure and sometimes stress.

One guy was so broken by the frustration of not having made it since he graduated in 2010, and still without a job, that he wanted his Assistant Manager fiance, to move to his father’s house in Magodo, from the Oniru 2 bedroom, she presently occupied.

Why don’t you move in with her and make your great moves from there? “Never. I can’t marry and move into my wife’s house.” That is from a 32 year old guy, who still lives in his parents house.

Don’t get me wrong ooo. The economy is messed up. Our politicians have not done much to drag us out of the down turn. After elections, they start working toward the next election.

The problem has left many young men, not ready to be married. They are not prepared or do not have what it takes to be a man that can take a woman as wife. And not just as wife, to even be able to provide as the head of the house.

So the few men who are loaded and ready, are few and in very high demand. Many ladies can hurt any other lady who tries to take any rare find, of such a man. Especially if he has a house, good job, good car, looks good, dresses well and has very few defects.

So what’s the issue? The issue now, is that, even when these kind of young men, meet young ladies, who (by any reason) had a headstart, the young men are too faaaaaar behind, ill equipped and unprepared in the sourcing for opportunities and management of the relationship.

They are now slaves to ego, frustration, pride, peer pressure, poverty of mind and sometimes total disillusionment.

Look around. Don’t say I told you. Everywhere. There are many, who don’t know what to do, how to do it, where to do it, when to do it… Even with a Masters Degree in Bus Admin, LL.M, BA.Arch, Bsc Statistics. Everywhere.

With panelists from comedian Alibaba, Ayo Subair, Efe Omoregbe, Alex Ekubo, Idris Olorunnimbe, Bisola Aiyeola to mention a few from the three insightful sessions to moderators Omotola Jalade – Ekeinde (who doubles as the TEFFEST Convener), Richmond Osuji and Frank Edoho and guests like Craig Fenton – Google’s director of strategy and operations, Obi Asika, Joke Silva, Monalisa Chinda, Ibinabo Fibresima, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Eyinne Nwigwe, Toke Makinwa, Osa Ighadoro, amongst others.

“I had an amazing time. Thank you! I honestly cannot wait for next year. I just followed. Thanks a billion, ma’am. So much value gotten today. Bridging the Knowledge Gap. It was an agenda-setting event. I hope to take a more active part next year. God bless you,” read a number of comments from attendees, as gears are in motion for the 2020 edition already.

Convener Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde in her opening address reiterated that The Entertainment Fair and Festival (TEFFEST) is about promoting possibilities in the entertainment business, which followed after the keynote address from special guest Craig Fenton, who went on to emphasize the importance of proudly African content and shared a selfie with the guests; his address opened for the Young Entertainers Conference which was moderated by the actress and convener Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde; with Bisola Aiyeola, Alexx Ekubo, Captain E and Maleek of Slickcity on the panel.

Their session spilled to the Google break out session lounge at the TEFFEST ground for questions with panelists and special guest Craig Fenton and it was followed by the second session moderated by Richmond Osuji with Efe Omoregbe, Idris Olorunnimbe, AGN secretary Abubakar Yakubu and Simeon Okoduwa. Frank Edoho went on to moderate the third and final session before guests moved on the Silent Disco ground which was surrounded by the exhibitors and vendors.

The Entertainment Fair and Festival went on to deliver on all it promised and more as the most important showbiz event of 2019.
